Learning languages

What can you advise a student who is not very good at languages to do to achieve better results?

Use your ideas as well as ideas from the text "Perfect method of teaching and learning a foreign language": Click here

  1. It'll be good for that student to watch films in English, read texts in English aloud and translate all the words he (or she) doesn't understand.
At the beginning of that academic year I have accidentally found one effective method of learning foreign languages. It says that you should learn only one new word per day. As a result, at the end of the year you'll know 364 new foreign words. Can you emagine? Just one word a day...

Also, in my view, the best way to learn English is to learn by heart the words of your favorite lyrics and to sing it aloud at home every day.

A student should wake his (or her) interest to that language up - then "nothing will be impossible for you, if you really want to do it" :)

    1. I like the idea with one word a day. But if I'm not mistaken there are 365 days a year. Is the 365th day a day off? :)

  2. In my opinion there is no a method of teaching\learning that can make learning language fast and easy.I agree with the author that the most convenient and pleasant study of any subject is when you have a good relationships with a teacher and when the teacher has good individual qualities and maybe some sense of humor. Yes, it helps and makes learning fun, but i also agree with Dasha, if a pupil student doesn't want to study the subject, he/she won't. However if the student wants to study any language then he/she should not only know the vocabulary words, but i think he should also watch films, read books, listen to music and find someone from another country and chat, trying to express their minds this support your language skills.

  5. I agree with all opinions and can't say something new, because there aren't other ways to learn foreign language. Yes, it's good idea to watch films or read stories. Yes, it's perfect to learn a word per day. But, I think, that it's hard to find a clever teacher, who will explain all things, which you don't understand. This is a real problem nowadays, but I don't have it =)

  6. I also agree with Dasha and Masha. It's a good idea to watch films in English, read texts in English and translate it, chat with friends in English. In my view it's interesting to lear some new phrases, which you can use in your speech.
I like Anya's idea that it's hard to find a clever teacher, who will explain all things, which you don't understand. But I believe that we don't have this problem)

    1. I think the problem is finding the time for doing all the useful things you mention. A person needs to make an effort and have a great desire and hard work to improve their English skills. To say and to do are two different things.

  7. In my opinion, that would improve your knowledge in english, you have to combine the pleasant with the useful. We can play computers games(online and single) in english, watch movies and videos in english,if possible to visit other countries we should to go there and ,of course, read the book in english(but it is more boring than the computers games and movies). And chit chat with people whose know english,go in some english camp or sanatorium.I think this plan help you level up your knowledge in english language...

  9. I agree with Nick about computer games. With the help of games I learned many new English words. Also, you can read books and watch movies in English, travel to another country where English is used. In my opinion, it is best to attend English language courses. In the short term, you can get a large amount of information. There you can chat with other people learning English. I think that is the best way for a short period of time significantly improve the knowledge of English language.

  10. Everyone, who wants to learn English wants to know an ideal way of learning it,but I think, there's no ideal way to learning English or any other language, but there are some good ones.
    1) Listening music and watching films in English . It's a good way to improve your listening skills and also to learn idioms and phrases which you won't find in your textbooks.
    2) Communicate with native speakers. In my view it's one of the best ways of learning foreign languages. It improves your listening and speaking skills. Actually, very little percentage of people have such good chances, but it improves your knowlege and skills very well.
    3) Reading literature. Of course, our school books are good sources of knowledge, but everyone who wants to learn the language needs to know not only the rules, but also a literary language, for the studying which the British classics suits the best.
